Terms and conditions:
 

  1. The competition is open to female applicants – who at the time of application are resident in Bulgaria, aged between 14-18 years old at the time of application (8th-11th grade in the 2022-23 academic year) – except close relatives of British Embassy Sofia employees and anyone otherwise connected with the judging of the competition.

  2. There is no entry fee.

  3. The British Embassy Sofia will cover the travel, accommodation and food expenses for the winners and one chaperone. 

  4. Route to entry for the competition and details how to enter are: 

  • All candidates must answer the following question – ‘If you were “Ambassador for a Day", how would you promote gender equity in Bulgaria?’ 

  • The entries should be in written format (essay) within the word limit of 200-250 words. The essay can be in English or Bulgarian. 

  • The entries must be sent via the application form available at: www.ambassadorforaday.com. Together with the essay, each candidate must send the following contact details: name, date of birth, email address, and their telephone number. Those details will be used to inform candidates about the results of the competition.  

  • The candidates must enter the competition with essays, which have not been published in print or online prior to the announcement of the Ambassador for a Day competition and have not been used for applying to similar initiatives. The content of the essays must be original and in line with the theme of the Ambassador for a Day campaign – Embrace Equity.

   5. Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified. 

   6. Winners from the previous Ambassador for a Day campaigns in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively, cannot enter the current              competition. 

  7. The closing date for entry will be 23:59 hrs, 22nd of January 2023. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be                      permitted. 

  8. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason. 

  9. Three winners will be selected anonymously based on their essay by a judging panel, which includes British Embassy employees and         independent members. 

 10. The winners will be notified by email within 10 days of the closing date. If a winner cannot be contacted within four working days of             notification, the British Embassy reserves the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner among the           other competitors.

 11. The winners’ prize consists of: 

  • Shadowing the British Ambassador in Sofia; 

  • Аn opportunity to visit the presidency for a meeting with the Vice President of Bulgaria – Iliana Iotova; 

  • Training opportunity; 

  • Depending on the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, some or all activities can be held online. British Embassy Sofia will       inform you for all developments in timely manner. 

  • British Embassy Sofia reserves the right to cancel all events depending on the situation at the time.  

 12. The rules of participation in the Ambassador for a Day campaign are as follows: 

  • The winners agree to be photographed and/or filmed during public and online engagements within the Ambassador for a Day campaign in order to promote the initiative provided that the photos/videos do not prejudice their dignity and reputation. 

  • If the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic allows travelling, the winners must be available to travel to Sofia. 

  • The winners must have a chaperone, who is over 21 years old (parent, teacher, or guardian) in order to travel to Sofia. 

​13. The British Embassy Sofia’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition, including but not limited to the appraisal of the participants, the organisation of carrying out the competition and the awarding of the winners’ prizes will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The authority shall have the right to change the dates and order for presenting the awards, shall a necessity occur whereby the participants shall be notified. 

14. By entering this competition, the entrant and her lawful representative is indicating her agreement to be bound by those terms and conditions
