General rules of participation

Terms and conditions for entering the competition

 

The competition is open to female applicants – who at the time of application are resident in Bulgaria, aged between 14-18 years old (8th-11th grade in the 2020-21 academic year) – except close relatives of British Embassy Sofia employees and anyone otherwise connected with the judging of the competition.
 

There is no entry fee.

 

Depending on the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, if the winners need to travel for an event or an activity, the British Embassy Sofia will cover the travel  expenses s for the winners and one  chaperone.

 

Route to entry for the competition and details how to enter are:

  • All candidates must answer the following question – If you were Ambassador for a day, how would you help Bulgaria recover after the COVID-19 pandemic, and what would be your top three priority areas?

  • The entries should be in written format (essay) within the word limit of 200-250 words. The essay can be in English or Bulgarian.

  • The entries must be sent via the application form available at: www.ambassadorforaday.com. Together with the essay, each candidate must send the following contact details: name, date of birth, email address, and their telephone number. Those details will be used to inform candidates about the results of the competition. 

  • The candidates must enter the competition with essays, which have not been published in print or online prior to the announcement of the Ambassador for a Day competition and have not been used for applying to similar initiatives. The content of the essays must be original and in line with the theme of the Ambassador for a Day campaign – Resilience, Recovery & Rebuilding.


 

Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.


 

Winners from the previous Ambassador for a Day campaigns in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively, cannot enter the current competition.

The number of winners shall correspond to the number of partnering Ambassadors.

 

Closing date for entry will be 23:59 hrs, 21 January 2021. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be permitted.

 

No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

The winners’ prize consists of:

  • Shadowing an Ambassador in Sofia;

  • An opportunity to work with a non-governmental organisation; 

  • Depending on the measures in place at the time, related to COVID-19, an opportunity to visit the presidency for a meeting with the Vice President of Bulgaria – Iliana Iotova;

  • Participation at the high-level event in March 2021, celebrating International Women’s Day. 

  • Depending on the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, some or all activities can be held online. British Embassy Sofia will inform you for all developments in timely manner.

  • British Embassy Sofia reserves the right to cancel all events depending on the situation at the time. 

 

The rules of participation in the Ambassador for a Day campaign are as follows:

 

  • - The winners agree to be photographed and/or filmed during public and online engagements within the Ambassador for a Day campaign in order to promote the initiative provided that the photos/videos do not prejudice their dignity and reputation.

  • - If the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic allows travelling, the winners must be available to travel to Sofia.

  • - The winners must have a chaperone, who is over 21 years old (parent, teacher, or  guardian) in order to travel to Sofia.

 

The British Embassy Sofia’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition, including but not limited to the appraisal of the participants, the organisation of carrying out the competition and the awarding of the winners’ prizes will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The authority shall have the right to change the dates and order or presenting the awards shall a necessity occur whereby the participants shall be notified. 

 

By entering this competition, the entrant and her lawful representative is indicating her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
