The format for 2023 combines some of the integral elements of the competition with several changes that would enhance the experience of the winners.

This year we are once again looking to hear more about your ideas in the form of an essay. The question to which we expect your answer, inspired by this year's theme for International Women's Day, 'Embrace Equity', is: 'If you were an Ambassador for a Day, how would you promote gender equity in Bulgaria?'.

Your essay must be up to 1600 characters, or about 250 words, and the deadline for participation is the 22nd of January 2023.

Girls aged between 14 and 18 at the time of application are eligible to apply.

​

Three winners will be chosen, and they will have the chance to shadow the British Ambassador in Bulgaria as well as to meet with Vice President Iliana Iotova, patron of this initiative, on International Women’s day on 8 March 2023.

The aim of the competition is to provide the winners with an insight into international diplomacy in action and to encourage girls to participate in politics and diplomacy by adding their voices and perspectives to international relations, development and conflict resolution.

In the past six years over 60 young women have had the opportunity to be an 'Ambassador for a Day' and we are immensely proud of how they have used this experience as a platform to become leaders in their society and how the programme has raised their ambitions for what they can achieve.
